EYE EXAMS & VISION TESTING

Our Approach is Simple. We Start by Listening to You.

We know that each patient has different needs, and it is our responsibility to know and understand these in order to provide the very best eye care for you.

You will receive:

  • Individual attention
  • The latest technology to aid in the analysis of your eyes
  • An eyeglass prescription, determined using 3 different methods to ensure total accuracy
  • A glaucoma test to measure your eye pressure.
  • A complete cataract evaluation and explanation
  • Pupil dilation to allow for a thorough retinal examination (Your doctor will discuss this with you if recommended.)
  • Digital Retinal Photography
  • A personalized consultation with your eye doctor to review and discuss the results of all your tests

When non-optometric disorders are diagnosed, we work with other allied health care professionals and specialists, such as neurologists, dermatologists, internists, ophthalmologists, and others as necessary.

Comprehensive eye examinations are performed for all ages. We recommend that you have your eyes examined at least once every two years. Rapidly changing prescriptions, contact lens wearers and certain health conditions may require more frequent evaluation. Alberta Health currently covers one complete exam per year for patients aged 18 and under, and seniors aged 65 and over.

We make patient education and awareness a top priority, and encourage any questions pertaining to your eye exam, visual condition or optical requirements. The more information you give us with respect to your specific visual needs, the more we are able to custom design your optical correction, if required, to provide best performance during all hours of your day.

Who Needs Eye Exams?

Routine eye exams are one of the best ways to protect your vision. Knowing what's involved in the exam and how to prepare for the exam will help you get the most out of your visit.

small boy eye examAn eye exam is one of the best ways to protect your vision because it can detect eye problems at their earliest stage; when they're most treatable. Regular eye exams give your eye care professional a chance to help you correct or adapt to vision changes. And the optometrists / eye care specialists at Mountain View Optometry can give you expert tips on ways to reduce eyestrain and how to care for your eyes.

Even if you think your eyes are healthy, you'll still need an eye exam from time to time. Eye exams can make sure your eyes are healthy now and help you understand your risk of eye disease in the future. Several factors may determine how frequently you need an eye exam, including your age, health and risk of developing eye problems. Here are some general guidelines to follow for eye health:

School-Aged Children & Adolescents

Bring your children in for their first exam by 6 months of age, and annually thereafter (Alberta Health covers these visits).

Adults

If you wear contact lenses, you need to have your eyes checked yearly. Healthy adults with no symptoms (such as blurry vision, red or irritated eyes, or other problems) may only need to be checked every two years. If you have a health condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol you may need to be checked every year or more frequently as determined by your optometrist.
