Improve Your Eye Care Habits

The following eye care factors will reveal simple yet powerful ways you can help save your eyesight from further deterioration. What are you waiting for? Read on!

#1: Reading – Yes, reading a book, newspaper, or anything up close can cause eyestrain which, in some cases, could lead to an increase in prescription and more dependence on glasses. Although most of the time you don’t feel the damage being done, I’m sure you’ve felt the discomfort in your eyes after hours of reading, studying, or any prolonged close vision activity. You don’t need to eliminate close vision work, you simply need to learn how to do close vision work properly. Ask your optometrist for proper reading tips to improve your eyesight.

#2: Using the Computer – Some people actually require a special eyeglass prescription. In addition, some simple viewing habits such as looking up from the screen at a distant object to refocus, and making sure your viewing distance (eyes to screen) is appropriate are good techniques to use.

#3: Squinting or Straining to See – Internal muscular stresses put upon your visual system are a major cause of vision problems. Have you ever tried to read in dim light or tried to see something very small by squinting your eyes? These simple viewing habits create a stress upon your eyes that can make your eyesight worse. Just a few specially designed optical exercises and relaxation techniques can relieve visual stress, relax the internal components of your eye, and strengthen the muscles responsible for focusing.

#4: Not Exercising Your Eyes – Some people require special exercises to help strengthen a weakness in either their focusing power or their eye coordination. Visit your optometrist for advice on managing these and other eye care factors to help prevent vision deterioration.
